Course Outline

The Creative Arts Masters Platform is a suite of five MA programmes (Interior Design, Visual Communication, 3D Design, Fine Art, and Visual & Critical Studies) that offers a unique opportunity for focused study in an interdisciplinary and international community of practice and research.

The Platform allows specialisation within a dynamic mix of practical and critical disciplines, placing particular emphasis upon research-led practice that engages with intellectual inquiry and historical research.


Module Descriptors

Discipline Specific 1: Project Initiation

(15 ECTS → presentation/project proposal)

This semester-one module initiates practical work in the development of the MA research project. This module is semester one of a three-semester self-directed research project. For this module, each student is assigned a supervisor with whom they will meet weekly. The supervisors will provide feedback on the student’s project progress.


Discipline Specific 2: Project Development

(20 ECTS → presentation/project proposal)
This semester-two module develops practical and/or written work toward the realisation of the MA research project. For this module, each student is assigned a supervisor with whom they will meet on a weekly basis. The supervisors will provide feedback on the student’s project progress. This module is semester two of a three-semester self-directed research project. The student’s supervisor will provide feedback on the student’s project progress.


Discipline Specific 3: Project Realisation

(25 ECTS → Major project / practical design submission)
This semester-three module produces a Major Design Project, for which each student will be assigned an individual supervisor. For this module, each student is assigned a supervisor with whom they will meet on a weekly basis. The supervisors will provide feedback on the student’s project progress.


Research Methods

(10 ECTS → project proposal/presentation)

This module will introduce students to various research methods and techniques that will aid them in the construction of their research project. They will become familiar with different interpretative and historical frameworks and theoretical arguments that shape research.




Discourses in Art & Design

(10 ECTS → essay/presentation)
A comprehensive, two-semester survey of the discourses that shape current practice and criticism in contemporary art and design.




Discipline-Specific Seminar Series

(5 ECTS → review/commentary)
This module facilitates close analysis of core texts, projects, or events within specific disciplines, according to the constitution of the student research group. Each seminar is led by one faculty member. This might include practice-based learning for studio modules.
