Donal’s bio

Donal Lally is a Dublin-based architect and researcher. His work critically explores the socio-technical imaginaries of data infrastructure, focusing on data materiality, techno-utopianism, and techno-colonialism.He is a lecturer at the School of Art and Design at the Technological University Dublin, and the programme chair of the Masters Platform.



Donal Lally is a Dublin-based architect and researcher. His work critically explores the socio-technical imaginaries of data infrastructure, focusing on data materiality, techno-utopianism, and techno-colonialism.

Donal has presented his work at institutions, festivals and universities around the world, such as at the Venice Architecture Biennale, Transmediale, University of Illinois, Akademie Der Kuenste (Berlin), Science Gallery Dublin, Universität der Künste (Berlin), the Galway International Arts Festival, amongst many others. His work can be found across print, tv and radio media such as, Euronews, The Irish Times, The Economist, La Vanguardia, Der Tagesspiegel, Der Standard, Taz, Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung, RTE, El Cultural, Domus, Elle Decor, Strelka Mag, Architect's Journal, and ID Magazine. Donal has won multiple awards, most recently, as part of Annex, he was nominated for the European Commission's ST+ARTS prize. Donal is the director of 0°M, and the co-founder of ANNEX, a collaboration of artists, architects, and urban researchers born and/or based in Ireland who came together to curate the Irish Pavilion at the Venice Architecture Biennale in 2021.
