Implementing Feng Shui Into Western Office Design

How are invisible and visible forces related to human behaviours in modern office places?
The project aims to implement Feng Shui into western office design (The new campus of Technology University Dublin- Grangegorman East Quad Staff Accommodation) with ancient practice skills to examine, analyse the general design, identity the features and problems to improve and achieve the office wellbeing, health, and abundance we seek in modern life. It emphasizes the fact that Feng Shui engages with nature and its initial concept being avoiding negative forces to create fresh model skills for office design.

Many of us are increasingly concerned and aware of the importance of health and well-being in the workplace, where we spend most of our time in our work lives. It may also seem like common sense that better environments and designs can promote the health of workers and make people happier, more focused and productive on any occasion. On the other hand, some people believe that traditional folklore could be the new trend and opportunity to help us, and our colleagues, maintain wellbeing and harmony in the place of work.

Stereotype

Feng Shui’s art might be regarded as mystical and mysterious, and perhaps even be disregarded in the western world. Many people do not support this philosophy for many reasons. The main reasons for the failure of Feng Shui are that there is no scientific basis, no evidence beneficial to support the spiritual claims, no theorization, no unified understanding, universal adaptation and application. However, Feng Shui is authentic, which is the oldest art and scientific practice system in China.
It consists of a set of beliefs and rules regarding the interdependence and inter influence of the person-environment fit. Feng Shui involves many characteristics, which can be viewed from multiple perspectives such as philosophy, psychology, spirit and practice. The concept of Feng Shui is to combine structure to explain the interactive energy of wind and water or
the flow of Qi (Chi) movement in nature and the universe. It is also used to identify the features of an individual’s surrounding environment that make them feel relaxed and calm.

Why Feng Shui?

Feng Shui is a complex system of ancient practices that has many benefits that we can take advantage of. It is said to promote better positive energy throughout the space and can be adjusted based on your preferences and needs. Feng Shui integrates the consideration of natural and cultural elements to achieve harmony and balance between humans and nature.

Feng Shui is a living skill. There is an art to it. It is scientific: it is mathematical and at times it is logical - with an element of magic.

The project

The focus of this research project is how we can apply Feng Shui’s new design skill in office design to examine the general design and improve office wellbeing in modern life. Feng Shui is an ancient Chinese body of knowledge and practice, which involves making physical changes and bringing harmony to the flow of energy in order for it to run more smoothly for everyone. Therefore, when the energy called Qi flows smoothly, there will be a steady flow of money to the practice and good health to the employees. Feng Shui contributes to two things - invisible and visible forces, and how invisible and visible energy interacts and creates balance in any space.

Feng Shui shifts the energy of your place, which then shifts the energy and circumstances of your lives.
